It's my first review in English, there probably are mistakes !
Hair in the wind in an old car, nothing predestined Pepper to meet Annabelle and nevertheless, the auction of an old car is going to change for ever its life. A meeting but two stories in Along The Infinite Sea.
Considered as a standalone, this novel could be read without to know the other books but I don’t recommend it.
In a very subjective way because the writting style of the author is delicious and she has a gift to create charming characters and breathtaking intrigues but more objectively : there are references, characters that we were already able to meet in the other stories. In this novel, we have the enjoyment to see again a character of A Hundred Summers... I leave you the mystery (Clue : his first name begins with N).
In the book of Beatriz WILLIAMS, each story echos the one with the other one to deliver us two stories and two ends. Two heroines which meet to help. For Pepper, this meeting allows her to have the advice of somebody who seems to understand her confusion and for Annabelle, this meeting allows her to have the strength to search its past. Much to my surprise, it’s this story which erased a little the other one - as if the story of Pepper served only to help Annabelle and not the opposite.
However, in Tiny Little Thing (the second) I had become attached to Pepper. We taught about her a lot and we already perceived her sensibility. Even if, she is more decreasing because of Annabelle's charisma, her story is not less moving though, it’s especially Annabelle's story which captivated me. We go back during the 30s as Europe ignites and where extremes rise. The meeting between Annabelle and Stefan is only the beginning of love that the fate is going to persist in separating. A certain tension is perceptible.
Beatriz WILLIAMS gets the interest of the reader which in the torture dreads the end. Nothing is simple and in spite of an intrigue which seems complicated, the author knew how to find "je ne sais quoi" who makes that « everything goes without saying! ».
Two iconic characters in this novel who want finally to face the fears and to turn over the page. It’s not for nothing that the author makes a reference to the song "Yesterday". By reading the lyrics, I understood everything «Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it looks as though they're here to stay...».
After A Hundred Summers, it’s my favorite novel. The third novel marvelously closes the serie "The Schuylers sisters".
This book deserves his success and I hope that it’ll be very soon translates in french. Once again, I can say that Beatriz WILLIAMS is one of my favorite authors !
I discovered on the Beatriz WILLIAM’s site, a family tree of the SCHUYLER, useful to make the link between all the novels... [➡]
My reviews of The Secret Life of Violet Grant and Tiny Little Thing aren't translated !
